5 Exciting Windows Phone 8 Features

Though many would say that iPhones still dominate the smart phone market, there are strides being made by competitors, and Windows phones are fast becoming a very appealing alternative for customers. It is important to understand that there is a variety when it comes to Windows phones, with the connecting element being the Windows system within them (whereas the iOS systems in Apple products exist only in iPhones produced by Apple). However, that Windows system makes for an incredibly advanced smart phone with a number of very appealing and unique features. Here are five of the most exciting new features available on Windows 8 compatible phones.

1. Wallet
The Wallet feature helps you to transfer much of what you typically store physically, in your wallet, to your phone. Credit cards, membership cards, gift cards and other payment information can now be uploaded digitally into your phone, all conveniently and securely packed into the Wallet feature. Additionally, Wallet allows you to search for and be alerted by local deals and coupons, and even helps you to keep track of your balances.

2. Start Screen
The newly designed start screen for Windows 8 allows you more options than ever before. While the apps are still a flick away, the home start screen can now be customized in any way you choose. You can pick the size of the tiles on the start screen to emphasize what you need and use most.

3. Kids' Corner
Kids love to play with smart phones, and really it can be a great way to keep them occupied for a little while! But, they can also mess things up pretty easily (taking pictures, sending messages, etc.) without meaning to. Kids' Corner is designed to let your kids play with your phone in a designated space that eliminates these risks.

4. Rooms
Essentially a social networking platform within Windows 8, Rooms is an opportunity to create group environments with other users. Invite friends to a Room to share photos, calendar events, messages, etc. in an exclusive, but group-oriented location.

5. NFC Capabilities
NFC capabilities - the process by which data is shared between users merely by touching the phones together - have been expanded for Windows 8. In addition to photos and website links, you can now share contacts or contacts lists through NFC, providing extremely convenient file sharing for Windows users.

How to use your iPhone or iPad or android device as a trackpad for your Windows 8 PC

Windows 8 is a gesture heavy Operating system that works best with touchscreens and PCs with specially deigned mouse and keyboard. So if you want a first class Windows 8 experience, you should better upgrade to one with touch support and/or specially designed trackpad/mouse/keyboard for Windows 8. Though, many of these trackpads don’t work ideally. However, if the upgrade is too far from your budget, you can at least do one thing, provided that you own an iOS or android device. You can download a trackpad app that recognizes Windows 8 gesturers.

iOS devices

If you own and iOS device, you can download a free app known as Gesture touchpad for Windows 8 from the Appstore that works just fine. Another App known as KyePad Plus can be used as a trackpad and keypad for almost any OS including Windows (no Windows 8 gesture support). Other than that, you can check out iTap mobile touchpad (no Windows 8 gesture support).

Android Devices

How to install/run Windows 8 /RT on your iPad

Installing Windows 8 on iPad would have been an ideal condition, if it was possible. Unfortunately its not possible at all. May be someday, someone ports Windows RT to iPad, since Windows RT can run on ARM processors, but we doubt it.
Screenshot (67)
The good news is that, its possible to run Windows 8 on your iPad via Wi-Fi. And the experience is very close to a real Windows 8/RT touch experience.  Before you begin reading the whole tutorial, please note that you will have to buy an iPad App for this to work that will cost you 10 bucks, though cracks are available if you want to try before you buy. Other than that, you will need a Windows 8 PC (not Windows RT) and Wi-fi. Having said that, lets begin.
  1. Download and install splashtop  streamer for your Windows 8 PC from here.
  2. Download the App for your iPad from the iTunes Store here
  3. Start Splashtop streamer App on your PC
  4. Connect you PC to your network
  5. Connect your iPad to the same network via Wi-fi.
  6. Turn on the App that you downloaded (win8 metro testbed).
  7. Your App will automatically recognize your Windows 8 PC,  Just click on that.
This way, you can run Windows 8 on your iPad with full Windows 8 gesture support. If you like this article, please share it with your friends on your favorite network below.
